Burkes-Campbell Sandy Burkes-Campbell
M.S. CCC-A

Sandy received her undergraduate degree in speech and hearing science from Ohio University and her Masters in Audiology from Emory University in Atlanta. She is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association, Academy of Doctors of Audiology, American Academy of Audiology, Educational Audiology Association, and Speech and Hearing Association of Virginia. Sandy has been a practicing Audiologist for 35 years and her life’s work has been improving the lives of hearing impaired children and adults. 

She has two grown children (both VCU grads) and enjoys sailing in the Bay with her husband. Her spare time is spent in the garden or in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Sandy’s flowers often brighten up our offices.


Garrett Mavis W. Garrett
Au.D., CCC-A

Dr. Mavis W. Garrett received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Virginia in 1980 and her Masters in Education from UVA in 1982. She began her career in Tidewater at an ear, nose and throat specialist’s office in Norfolk upon graduation. While there, she became a faculty member of Eastern Virginia Medical School and served as an instructor for the medical school. In 1984, she moved to the Peninsula and began a long affiliation with a local hospital and later with Ear, Nose and Throat Physician’s and Surgeons, Inc. In 2003, she was awarded a Doctorate in Audiology from AT Still University.

Dr. Garrett is a member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology. She is a fellow with the American Academy of Audiology and holds licenses in both Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Dr. Garrett avidly seeks continuing education and stays in tune with the latest developments in technology and rehabilitative services for the hearing impaired of all ages.

Three teen-aged children, two dogs and a cat keep Dr. Garrett and her husband busy when away from the office. Her interests include exercise and weight lifting at the local YMCA, needlework and gardening.

Elder-Christensen Salisha (Sally) Elder-Christensen

Dr. Elder-Christensen received her Doctorate in Audiology from the University of Connecticut after completing her 4th year training at University Hospitals Case Western Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology & Neurobiology from the University of Connecticut. She holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and an audiology license through the Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sally is a fellow in the American Academy of Audiology. Prior to joining MAICO, Sally worked at an ENT practice performing a wide range of audiological procedures such as evaluating children through adults, doing hearing aid fittings and electrophysiological testing. Sally joined MAICO Audiological Services in September 2010.

Originally from Trinidad, Dr. Elder-Christensen has lived in CT for 12 years. She and her husband enjoy spending time at the beach, attending plays and going to basketball games. Sally has a sister and two cousins who were born with hearing loss which motivated her to study and practice audiology. She often says “Nothing is more fulfilling than helping people hear better so that they live more fulfilling and connected lives, I love what I do!”
